Galapagos Islands travel reviews

I have recently arrived back from the Galapagos Islands, and cannot stop telling people how much I love it. It is like no other place in the world, there is something so unique about here. Maybe it's the different landscapes in close proximity, or the plethora of animals who act more like humans, whatever it is I know Galapagos is somewhere I will return to again and again.

I was on board Galapagos Journey 1, and can honestly say this was the best way to see Galapagos. Many times arriving to islands, with no other boats around and seeing no other people whilst exploring the island. This could allow you time to be enchanted and imagine what Charles Darwin may have felt upon arrival to this strange land.

Apart from that Galapagos Journey 1 was large enough to offer a minimal rocky ride, for those with seasickness a catamaran is clearly the way to travel. The interior of the cruise ship was superb, and the cuisine exceptional. There is even a jacuzzi which the staff often have ready for you to enjoy after excursions.

I took the 8 day cruise with Galapagos Journey 1 and would recommend it over the 4/5 day trips. You need the extra time to really feel you have experienced a good portion of what Galapagos has to offer. The itinerary took us to all these places!

Tuesday AM: Baltra Airport / PM: Santa Cruz Island - The Highlands

Wednesday AM: Santiago Island - Chinese Hat / PM: Santiago Island - Puerto Egas

Thursday AM: Santiago Island - Sullivan Bay / PM: Bartolome Island

Friday AM: Santa Cruz Island - Bachas Beach / PM: Baltra airport

Saturday AM: San Cristobal Island - Interpretation Center & Tijeretas Hill / PM: Lobos Island

Sunday AM: Española Island - Gardner Bay / PM: Española - Punta Suarez

Monday AM: Floreana Island - Cormorant Point / PM: Floreana Island - Post Office Bay

Tuesday AM: Santa Cruz Island - Charles Darwin Station / PM: Baltra Airport

During these precious 8 days you really pack an awful lot in. If you take enough suncream you can also come back with a healthy tan! During the time in Galapagos I hiked many unusual islands, one with compacted lava, another full of cacti, a pristine beach dotted with sealions and marine iguanas and many more. Under the water you could also experience close by safe encounters with sharks, turtles, penguins, marine iguanas and of course sealions. If you are good at snorkelling, then swimming along side turtles or swirling around sealions in an feeling like no other. On most islands there is such an abundance of life, and even after your 20th sighting of a blue footed booby you won't be able to resist taking just one more photo.

Galapagos is a land which thankfully some areas we have protected. To see nature like this, acting in total harmony with visiting humans is almost in describable. You must experience here for yourself, and I can promise on leaving you will be planning your return.
